Event

Bikes will be racked in transition on Saturday, June 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is no race-day packet pick-up or bringing your bike into transition. Plan accordingly, as you must pick up your race packet on Saturday and rack your bike. Our host hotel is offering special rates, so make a weekend getaway mini vacation for race weekend. Distance: 1/3 mile swim/ 18 mile bike/ 3 mile run

AQUA SPHERE SWIM COURSE:
A beautiful lake swim on the grounds of the Lake Lanier Islands Resort Beach and Waterpark.

SPECIALIZED D4W BIKE COURSE:
Athletes will exit through the Gates of Lanier Islands on a one-loop scenic bike course. Experienced triathletes will welcome the rolling hills of Georgia, while the newbie triathlete will enjoy her cycling experience amidst the beautiful terrain of this course!

K-SWISS RUN COURSE: Athletes will finish their triathlon experience on a rolling and picturesque run throughout Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Deer Park Water and Gatorade will be on the course at mile 1 and 2. Aflac duck cold sponges will be at the finish line.

The following cut-off times for the event:
Swim – 30 minutes
Bike – 2 hours
Run – 60 minutes
Athletes will start in waves by age group for the swim.

Swim Wave Starts
You are assigned based on the USAT age rule, which means you are racing based on your age as of 12/31/2010. Your swim wave will be noted on your packet.

Event Day Information
Early arrival is recommended to allow time for you to park, walk to transition and get ready for a terrific race day. Transition will open at 5:00 a.m. with a prompt race start at 7:00 a.m. Athlete wristbands will allow you in and out of transition.

Course Talks at Expo
We will have three course talks on Saturday, June 26 to attend to get the latest event information, directions and more. The course talk is not mandatory, but will help make a difference in sorting out race day.
Noon, 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
1:00 p.m. Marni Sumbal, M.S., special guest speaker will guide you through race nutrition and other race tips.

Wet Suit Rules
USAT RULE Article IV Swimming Conduct
4.4 Wet suits. Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

Please note we will do an official water temperature reading on race morning. But wet suits will likely not be necessary as the past few year the water is very warm.

Roswell Bicycle Support
Roswell bike assembly/disassembly services are as follows for participants at the Aflac Iron Girl Atlanta event:

  • Receive a shipment and assemble the bike - $80.00 (this includes assembly and a race tune-up)
  • Disassemble and pack the bike for shipment - $65 (this includes disassembly, bike box and packing)
    * Customer must arrange in-coming and out-going shipments directly with either UPS or FEDEX.
  • Bike Rentals: daily rental fee is $75 for a road or tri bike and $45 for a hybrid bike.
  • Rental Bike delivery and return: In addition to renting bikes Roswell will also deliver the bikes to the event and bring them back after the event for $25. (Please note, delivery and returns are for Roswell rental bikes only).

For $100 you can rent a nice bike for the day and not have to schedule dropping by Roswell Bicycles to pick-up the bike and return it on you way from and to the airport.

Strollers,
Inline Skates, Rollerblades, Headphones and Dogs Not Allowed On Course
For the safety of all participants, strollers, inline skates, rollerblades, headphones and dogs are not allowed on the course at any time.

Age Group Awards
Iron Girl will give away one-of-
kind Iron Girl necklace to the top three finishers in each age group. We will have 15 divisions: 14 - 19; 20 - 24; 25 - 29; 30 - 34; 35 - 39; 40 -44; 45 - 49; 50 - 54; 55 - 59; 60 - 64; 65 - 69; 70 - 74; 75- 79; 80+

Venue & Race Day Parking
The race begins and ends at the Lake Lanier Islands Resort Beach and Waterpark.  Race day parking is available at the Beachview Pavilion, just across from the Beach and Waterpark upper lot where transition and finish line are located.  Enter through the front gate of the resort and drive a short distance to the entrance of the Beachview Pavilion parking area on the right. Please note, all vehicles parked in the Beachview Pavilion Parking Lot will not be allowed to exit this parking lot until the final cyclist has returned to transition, approximately 9:40 a.m. Once Beachview Pavilion lot is full, additional parking is located at the Holiday Pavilion Parking Lot. Please keep in mind this lot is over ½ mile/15 minute walk to transition area

Please be aware that the Beach and Waterpark will open at 10:00 a.m. and traffic will be congested as you are leaving.
